Texercise Belton

Belton Texercise Team Launch

The spring Texas weather couldn't stop the more than 80 in attendance at the Belton Texercise Team Launch on May 1, 2007.

The launch, held at the T.B. Harris Community Center, included motivational speakers Mayor Jim Covington and Walter Abercrombie, a former professional football player.

Along with the speakers, exhibitors supported the event and informed participants about fitness, nutrition and health.

Also attending were members of the Belton Senior Center who demonstrated chair aerobics. The demonstration was led by the upbeat Nan Phalen and Ernest Swinden. Nan, a vibrant 88-year-old, began leading classes at the Belton Senior Center 22 years ago and has continued to do so twice a day, five days a week.

Nan believes that exercise is something beneficial and shouldn't be seen as something childish. When asked why she continues to exercise she responded, "Healthy feels good. I don't have any aches or pains."

Assisting Nan with the exercises was 86-year-old Ernest, who said exercising makes him feel great. He agrees with Nan's outlook on the benefits of exercising.

Nan and Ernest have been leading classes together for years now and they plan to continue their efforts in encouraging Belton residents to develop the positive attitude and love for fitness they share.
