Walk Across Texas
Walk Across Texas and Texercise have partnered to help encourage Texans ages 45+ and older make healthy lifestyle choices such as participating in regular physical activity.
Texercise will supply Walk Across Texas county extension agents with the tools and methods for encouraging local activities. The county extension agents will distribute the motivational incentives within their community.
Tools provided include:
- Introduction to Texercise Kit – This kit will be available to county extension agents and will help develop teams within their communities.
- Community Texercise Kit – The resource will be provided to each local team by the county extension agent and will include motivational incentives for those participating in the program, such as a Texercise Handbook, a t-shirt and a pedometer.
Encouraging activity
- County extension agents are provided with the Introduction to Texercise kit that specifies the steps needed to develop local teams.
- County extension agents develop teams and help them complete the Texercise/Walk Across Texas Team commitment form, which:
- ensures the team is made up of individuals who are 45+,
- records the teams name, ages, goal and timeline, and
- is the method for requesting Community Texercise Kits for each team.
- County extension agents provide a Texercise program specialist with the completed master reporting form. The master reporting form lists the teams in the region, and helps Texercise distribute and track the Community Texercise Kits.
- Texercise ships Community Texercise Kits to the county extension agents who distribute kits to the teams in their region.
- Texercise/Walk Across Texas Teams use the resources in the Community Texercise Kit and Walk Across Texas to encourage member activity, track the teams progress and challenge each other.
If you are a county extension agent and would like to obtain the Texercise/Walk Across Texas packets offered in this partnership, please contact Texercise by e-mail: Texercise@dads.state.tx.us or by calling (800) 889-8595.
