The AARP Driver Safety Program

The AARP Driver Safety Program is the nation's first and largest refresher course for drivers age 50 and older. The AARP course that has helped millions of drivers remain safe on roads, is available both in the classroom and online.

The course teaches current rules of the road, how to operate motor vehicle more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment, and some adjustments to common age-related changes in vision, hearing, and reaction time. Participants learn about:

  • maintaining proper following distance at all times,
  • the effects of medications on driving,
  • properly using safety belts, air bags, and anti-lock brakes,
  • maintaining physical flexibility, and
  • much more.

The AARP Driver Safety Program and Texercise have collaborated to provide Texas residents with valuable driver safety information from the AARP and fitness and nutrition resources available through Texercise. Visit www.aarp.org/tx or call 1-888-227-7669 for information and local course locations.
